If it only was a joke I would feel so much better. He is getting random reboots on a Gateway. No BSOD, just goes black and starts back up. He used something called drivewiper (or something like that) to in effect format the HDD and then reinstalled XP with the Gateway disk they supplied. Since then it has been nothing but issues. He went to, you, BestBuy/Geek Squad and they blew the thing out but want like $150 or some ridiculous amount to reinstall everything...so much for the warrantee he bought...haha! It only covers the hardware, no software issues at all. Anyway, I am betting on either his PSU is going or the thing is overheating. He described the HS layout and it sounds odd. Supposedly there is a fan in front with a duct that runs to some HS and then continues to a second one that is on his CPU. I have a funny feeling he is going to be at my doorstep come Sat morning.
That's what I was thinking. Given that it sounds like he isn't doing a "true" HDD reformat via an OS install disk I am leery about that drivewiper software not getting to the boot sector.
