How do i improve my 3D performance?

Hi fellow PC enthousiasts.
A few days ago i bought Crysis 3,
Because some people recommended is had awesome 3D gameplay.
Well , it does :-)
The only thing is i'm having problems staying above 40FPS on ultra.
I'm used to game on +80FPS on my 120Hz monitor.
And around 40 "feels chunky".
How do i improve this?
I'm willing to add another GPU, but i need to be shure it will solve the problem.

I've asked about tips on OC-ing on another board, but nothing i do will boot my system...
I'm an incredible noob in that field...

System specs :
I7 4770K
Asus Sabertooth
Kingston 12 gigs ddr3 1333mhz ram
Gigabyte windforce 7970 OC (1st version)
Corsair H100
Everything runs stock

Thanks already, i'm pretty sure you guys know what i should do.

Crysis 3 is brutal on hardware, a second GPU would work wonders for you. A CPU overclock would help too, and there are plenty of OC guides around the forum for your specific platform. Your memory configuration concerns me a little and that will hamper performance to be honest. You need to be running 2x sticks or 4x sticks for Dual Channel. Although I assume your running 2x 6GB right?

Just checked...
2x 2GB
2X 4GB

They are in the correct lanes on the Mobo.
I know they are just "of the shelf" sticks, costed me about 65€ i think a 5years ago.
Nothing special there...
