blue ray layers, and dvd layers

ok, I know that dvd uses red light and the blue ray uses blue light; therefore, blue ray can store more files. However, there are something like layers, and normally there is only 1 but there are also double layer dvds and double layer blue ray, but there are also 4 layer blue ray and 6 layer blue ray.
And I was thinking if there could be an infinite number of layers (but it gets more and more expensive to produce it; therefore it is not profitable) or there is a finite number of layers that the blue ray can have. And how come they dont produce dvds which have more layers than just two?

I'm not an expert but wouldn't the increased amount of layers demand a more powerful laser, because the more layers you add the thicker the disc, more problematic it is for the light to pass, not to mention a more powerful laser could actually damage the layers closer to it.

I'm pretty sure this is in the wrong section tho.
