Need upgrade advice from XFX HD6950 - Page 3

For the 7950, would I need an aftermarket cooler to OC it? I dont really want to spend the extra money and if I did, I'd get the 760.

No...Any good stock custom cooler is perfectly fine, I have ultra high ASIC % thus my card runs a bit hotter so I had to re-apply the thermal paste in order to get max out of my air cooling (usually you dont have to do that), and I´m running 1150/1500MHz for 24/7 and have benched @1250/1700MHz.

Sapphire dual-X, vapor-X, His IceQ, Gigabyte windforce III, MSI Twin frozr III, all very good coolers and will handle high overclocks with no problems.

I'm with Latin. That 6950 is no slouch. I think you'd be better to wait and see what the 9000's have to offer, instead of getting a 760 and not noticing enough improvement. When the 9000's come out, it will help equalize the market, and push more prices down. Heck, maybe you will find a 7950 or 670 for pretty cheap by then, and both are capable of beating that 760 (the 7950 will need the help of an OC).

well said. the sapphire HD 7950 with dual x cooler is a good option. can easily overclock to 1100 - 1150 mhz and keep temps below 70c. excellent price. USD 261 after 10% off w/ promo code EMCXMXV55, ends 8/8 (241 after mail in rebate)
