New CPU upgrade help!

Thread Starter
So I am using a i7 930 with a GTX 680 and I feel it is time to upgrade. I haven't really kept up with CPU game as of late and need a little bit of guidance. Not looking to spend more than 600 for the mobo, ram and cpu. My question is what will be a great cpu for my gtx 680 that wont break the bank. Thanks in advance.

You could go with Haswell, the new 1150 Socket motherboard, and a 1866MHz kit of ram.
i7 4770K
$334.53
Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H
$154.99
G.Skill 8GB 1866MHz
$69.99

Total:
$560

EDIT: Honestly for gaming, you could stick with the i5 4570K for less money and get similar gaming performance.

How about this?

It depends on what you are planning to use your PC for. If you are into video editing/rendering, et cetera, you might want to skip the cooler and add the extra into an i7. But then again, it's subjective.

Thank you for the fast response and useful information on pricing. Exactly what I was looking for. I work with visual studio 2010, and TPF toolkit a good bit so the extra CPU power never hurts. I will probably stick with the i7. Agian very helpful.

I will probably avoid the CPU cooler. I have a custom loop set up and will probably stick with that.

Of course you should skip it! In that case you have an additional $100 to add up to whatever you feel like would be the best upgrade. (:

Btw, update your sig rig. tongue.gif

One last question. Is this a smart upgrade from the i7 930? I have decided on the i5 4670k.

IMO yes, with a decent overclock. And especially in gaming.
