Cooler Master power supplies information thread

Thread Starter
Alright time for another info thread and this one is a bit unusual, anyway before i begin i want to say a few words and talk a little so please read it.

In the past Cooler Master has had a mix of good unit but also some really crappy units like the Seventeam made GX and the Thunder and others, Cooler Master more less ruined their reputation so much to this day i still see people say Cooler Master units sucks.

This was partly true with the crappy units but people forgot about the good ones.
Now this is all in the past and we cant look back at the past forever everything changes over time.

Cooler Master very much aware of their reputation is not very good is working very very hard to right their reputation.
I wont talk about the older Cooler Master units as that would make this thread a mile long and many of them are EOL or will be soon anyway so there is little point.
Enough of that and thanks for reading it.

Moving on to the first PSU of the day the new Cooler Master G series also known as the I series

These are sort of the same thing as the Corsair CX they are alright but they are not high end units that sould be put in a gaming or overclocking PC

These will come in 500/600/700 watts models and are non modular OEM is Enhance Electronics

No real reviews as of yet only a tweaktown review

http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/5539/cooler-master-i700-700-watt-80-plus-bronze-power-supply-review/index.html

Next is the GX II series

This is a non modular 80 plus bronze rated series made by Enhance Electronics

Wattage is 400 / 450 / 500 / 550 / 650 and 750 watts

review (Click to show) my thoughts (Click to show)
Overall this is a pretty decent cheap series with no major flaws to speak off

Maybe other then you should not crossload it

Next is the GX II Pro series

This is also a non modular 80 plus bronze rated series made by Enhance Electronics

Wattage is 400/450/550/650 and 750 watts

No other info at this point in time

Next is the GM series which is a semi modular 80 plus bronze series made by Enhance Electronics

Wattage is 450/550/650 and 750 watts[/B]

review (Click to show)
Moving on to the V series these are based on a Seasonic KM3/XP3 platform same platform as the newer Seasonic X models the Seasonic Platinum as well as the Corsair AX760/AX860

Wattage is 700/850/1000/1200 watts watts models and all are fully modular OEM as said is Seasonic
photos (Click to show)

700 watts reviews (Click to show) 850 watts reviews (Click to show) 1000 watts reviews (Click to show) 1200 watts reviews (Click to show) videos (Click to show)

Next one is the new Cooler Master VS which is semi modular 80 plus gold rated series

OEM is Enhance Electronics

The VS550 will be priced at around $90 US which will make this damm good bang for buck

In fact i think this one of the best if not THE best bang for buck you can find
photos (Click to show)

reviews (Click to show) video (Click to show)

Edit seems like Cooler Master cant keep the VS name so the Cooler Master VS is now the V series
Guess 3 times who sued Cooler Master over the VS name

Next we have the brand new Cooler Master V series.

This is a fully modular 80 plus gold rated series made by Enhance Electronics and so far it seems its the older semi modular V series that been made fully modular but i could be wrong at this point in time.
Wattage will be 550/650/750/850/1000 and 1200 watts which means that all of the older V series both Enhance Electronics and Seasonic made will be replaced by one series.

Tip for CM: stick with one color for the "V". Golden-yellow (for 80Plus Gold units) would be the rational choice.

At least they are finally working on it. Hopefully the EX2, GX, GX Lite, Thunder will be removed from the shelf here soon.smile.gif

More of the distributor holding too much stocks of those rubbish. Luckliy so far no one at my side insisted on a CM Extreme or any of their junk unit.
But if the G is decent.. I will at least consider it against the usual FSP Hexas/Raiders or even the TT Smart SE (IF only it didn't have a unknown primary cap)

I think the G is something like the Corsair CX maybe a little bit better but its a budget unit

Anyone who think its a good idea to put a budget unit into a mid or high end gaming/overclocking PC is stupid sory but thats the truth

Budget units as the name says is for budget PC´s

People buy our low-end products, but that doesn't mean we want to sell them. Units like the eXtreme series hurt our reputation, hurt the sales of higher-end units, and don't make us any money because they have relatively little margin.

The following low-end series are EOL. We are currently selling through existing stock and will not be carrying these products in the future:

eXtreme Power Plus
Extreme 2
Elite Power
GX

The GX units actually are not that bad, not with the current revision. The poor quality versions from launch were replaced by the new versions about 2 years ago, and all the old crap stock is pretty much out of circulation. But the bad reputation they got ensured that they wouldn't sell. So we're dumping these quite decent units at very low prices. If you keep an eye out you might be able to snag a deal.

I meant the old non bronze GX the ones that ends with a E in the serial number the OEM on those where SevenTeam

I still see some of those around which was why i pointed it out

And yes the bronze rated GX the ones that ends with a D in the serial number are alright not that bad

In comparison to the CX750, first impressions on the G700 are not as good.

What a company wanted to do five years ago, and what a company wants to do now, are not always the same thing.
