Haswell 4770k 4.7ghz Overclock

Thread Starter
I recently overclocked my 4770k to 4.7ghz. I wanted to reach 4.8 but I failed Aida after 2 hours with 1.35v. I decided to lower my multiplier to 47 and run prime and I was able to pass over 12 hours of blend.

Is it possible for me to fail Aida but pass prime? I would think prime puts more stress on the processor.

You failed Aida at 4.8 but passed Prime95 at 4.7? That sounds reasonable to me, considering it is at different speeds - did you try Aida at 4.7 or Prime at 4.8?

Basically, that. From what I'm reading it doesn't look like you're comparing two stress tests at the same speed.

Different workloads from different apps each with their own settings, very possible to fail one and pass another.

Some people are happy playing a game for an hour.. personally I like to run as many stress apps as possible before I consider anything even remotely stable.

Speaking of different versions of apps, your prime95 seems old - and does not appear to be testing AVX extensions.

These can make a huge difference to both temps and stability. Im not sure how your current cooling will cope with such temps with that voltage.

You clearly have a good solid base going on though, 12hours of testing from any stress app isnt to be laughed at (..lets exclude aid64 from that tongue.gif)

Hey midniteboss, this is a little off-topic but could I ask what kind of cooling system you have for your cpu? I also have a 4770k and will like to overclock once I can upgrade my H50.
