Question about ClockGen after overclocking CPU with nTune

Thread Starter
So after some extensive searching I found a program that allows you to overclock my computer.

I'm running an Athlon X2 64 bit 3800+ Dual core at 2.00ghz default speed. I've overclocked with the fine tune option in nTune, and when I did that everything was fine.... it took a bit to accomplish but when I opened ClockGen to view the speed the CPU speed sat at a steady 2.3ish ghz, while the FSB was running around 230mhz. Then I restarted my computer, and the fine tune results did not save even though I saved them to a file, and opened the file with nTune.

The thing is, when I open up clockgen and click on clocks to view the speeds, the FSB is running right about the amount I told it to run at with nTune. However, the CPU speed will run anywhere between ~1.2mhz to ~2.4mhz, it keeps jumping around. What does this tell me about my results? Is it not running at the speed it should be? Does it vary from the 1.2 to 2.4 range because of the fact that I'm running a dual core processor? Does this occur in anyone elses clockgen? (I'm assuming if that is the case, it'd run in multiples of 1-4x the processing speed).

Any help would be appreciated as I'm not quite sure whether or not the overclock worked, if it should be displaying the jump in the cpu speeds or not, or whether or not it's because it's running too hot or something and that's causing instability. IDK. -_-

It's because you have cool n quiet enabled. It's supposed to do that. If I remember right, you have an Hp. There's really not much you can do and that minimal overclock really isn't going to alleviate the fact that your cpu is 8 years old.

Honestly you can either live with your ntune results, upgrade your motherboard to one that properly supports overclocking (not a good idea given the age of that rig), or you can upgrade the whole thing and do it right this time instead of getting a pre-built.
