Hello OCN.
My sig rig is almost 1yo. After wondering whether to WC my 690 II for almost as long, I fell in-love with the AIR540 and pulled the trigger on it, along with a XSPC AX360+EX240+D5 Raystorm full-push-pull loop, to help me go above

The loop was overkill for the 3930K alone, but I did not want to WC the 670 as I was not sure whether to keep it or not since 780s started flying through the classifieds, and pricing for new 780s started dropping below $630, around the cost of a used 670 4GB SLI set. Add two waterblocks that retail not that cheaper for the 670s than the 780/Titan, and the 780 starts getting "better", despite not being faster in SLI optimized games and/or compute applications that use more than one card seamlessly.

Before the 2 vs 4GB debate starts, let me tell you that the card was bought with VRay RT GPU in mind, an application that does need nVidia GPUs and a lot of VRam. I regurarly break 2GB of usage, as 3DS alone might allocate above 1.4GB Vram for viewport display, and the renderer loads the whole scene + texture assets ontop. I might compromise to 3GB, but that's that. I would not go 2GB for a card that does both viewport and compute in my workflow.

Ofc I do game too, and I have a 1440p monitor.
I am not nuts with AA settings as I have nice and small pixels in comparison with any desktop 1080/1200p, and I play all of my games @ nearly maxed settings, pulling back on AA just great.

Yesterday I've found a unused XSPC 670 waterblock @ $62, and got it.

Already I have buyers remorse / wonder if I should use the WB with my lil card that served me just fine till now, maybe adding a 2nd down the road when things start getting harder with games etc (yeah, not really sweating about Crysis, didn't even try it yet, will probably be getting FarCry 3 tho), or go for the 780.

Dual 780s are too far fetched at the moment, as is a Titan (despite having usage scenarios that would be fun with 6GB VRam outside gaming).
79xx cards are not an option despite beating GK110s in OpenCL, as I do need CUDA (till Chaosgroup re-writes their OpenCL code for VRay RT).

Your thoughts?

I went from SLI 670's to 780's SLI.

Tried one 780 alone for a week before my second arrived, and it is by far the best card I have ever tried. Every game feels smoother than it ever did on 4xx/5xx/6xx series. Even at same or lower fps. It also has very good raw power by itself and I could max most games even at 2560x1440 with a single card! (No insane AA or anything though).

Raw performance you will get a little extra from two 670's compared to one 780, but remember that the 780 can be SLI'd too down the road, so you will be more future proof and get the insane smoothness and compute power of the 780. 3gb is more than enough for most stuff, but I don't know how that will be in your software as I don't use stuff like that.

Good choice. I went from 670 FTW at 1241 core to 780 at 1215 core. Haven't looked back thumb.gif It is anywhere from 45-60% faster depending on the app/game biggrin.gif

Approached a few 780 owners for getting a used card, but they would not nudge their price down.
With 780s selling for $630+FS+no tax available from NY shops, it is hard to justify $600 pricetags for a used one.

I was determined to get a new one as soon as the new AMD's would pop around the corner, hoping those would drive prices down - at least used prices as if those were as good as promised, many 780 owners would be tempted to switch. I needed CUDA, so I did not have that option.

Ended getting a EVGA Titan for the cost of a 780 ACX + Tax, in case I was buying from Amazon or Newegg.

Now I need to come up with a test scene for VRay RT GPU, and see what saturating 6BG of VRAM will take...biggrin.gif
I was barely breaking 3GBs @ what I was doing, and there are work-arounds that would make the 780 viable.
6GBs will be hard to surpass, 12GB on the K6000 should be ridiculous (ok, you can always subdivide your models for insane polygon counts, I am talking in a useful way).
