Afaik only the big arse GT's have PWM circuitry. Check the GT PWM mod thread for more. There's also the Rheosmart which can be used to control non-PWM fans, to run under PWM.

Well that is what l thought until I seen the amazon link posted by givmedew, but you can convert a 3 pin fan to run on a 4 pin PWM fan header so you can use the PWM signal to control the fans.

Amazon 3rd party link that is not active is proof?

"1850 RPM PWM!!"

See the exclamations points? !!! You know its legit now.

Well if you look at nidec servos website you will see it it possible to get GTs with PWM connections, the gray GTs are not too bad on the PWM converter I made tongue.gif.

There are other sources to that 1850 PWM... there are threads about it (not on this site). It is legit I don't know about that amazon seller but the fan is real how it became real I don't know. Maybe they are taking controllers from the larger fans maybe they have a Chinese company making controllers that will fit into it. I don't know but when I originally read about it a while back it is fairly clear that this is not a scam or non existent device.

I don't know for sure but I would imagine it is difficult to get truly ripped off on amazon. The customer service is great and I would think that if you did truly get ripped off that Amazon would eat the loss. Of course that is just speculation.

PWM fans are the way of the future and can be used as 3 pin fans. 3 pin only fans will have a limited future and have major limitations already. You can NOT use any sort of converter to turn a 3 pin fan into a PWM fan. All that the converter does is take a PWM signal and turn it into voltage controlled signal which still leaves you with the negative issues that voltage control has which is TONS OF HEAT in the controller (and the loss of energy that goes with that heat generation), limited wattage in the controller, a start up voltage that is higher than the minimum run voltage necessitating a smart controller always running above the start up voltage, and a minimum run voltage that results in a higher RPM speed than the lowest RPM that PWM can achieve.

So I would say it is worth the risk to find out if they are real especially since I have already seen quite a bit of information surrounding this ODD model.

If you absolutely don't want to take the chance then get a high speed one and mod it or buy another brand. You can make the high speed ones whisper quiet. I use 4000RPM 1.6a Delta fans and even at 12v the fan can run below 700RPM and even at 3000RPM it makes less noise than a coolmaster xcalibur at 2000RPM. If I ran them at 7v I would be able to achieve an even lower RPM and the max RPM would no longer be 4000.

You can surely do all that with the high speed PWM versions of the gentyle typhoon. Only thing is if you never ever plan on running it at that high of an RPM then I think the 1850PWM is a great choice.
