This is the start of what should be a great thread! The Linux Gamer's Club!
CRITERIA: If you would like to join, simply post with the following information:
1. Linux distro being used
2. Main games played on Linux
3. Level of experience with Linux
4. Any questions you might have
PURPOSE: The main goal (at least in my mind) is to provide an outlet for newcomers to Linux to learn or get help on how to game.
MEMBERS: All the members in this group are willing to provide help and advice to anyone who might have questions. Playing your games on Linux has been getting easier lately, but there are still a few obstacles here and there. By having a diverse group of members on all Linux distros, hopefully we can find fixes for any problems people might run into.
OTHER: This is also a great way to find other Linux gamers who might play the games you play!
Feel free to send me a PM if you dont want to post a question in the thread! Please also realize this is a work in progress, and I will be constantly updating the OP with advice, gaming information, and other sources of Linux Gaming Knowledge!

It actually runs very decently to be honest. There are a few glitches here and there, but nothing that makes the game unplayable. And this is on an AMD A6-5400K APU. I am getting a GTX 650TI in a few days, and I have read that at this point in time, Nvidia GPUs have superior drivers on Linux for gaming. So I will try that out as well. All in all, Dota 2 is very playable, otherwise I would probably have kept my windows partition as that is the main game I play.
@PCmonky - Yes, I think having a group for Linux gamers is a great idea, hopefully we can get some people together to make an efficient and effective club!
Agreed, it does seem to be a decent idea... Whether or not I am best suited to run the show is another matter however. I only recently switched to Linux, and haven't actually messed with too many games other than Dota 2.
So I am more than willing to organize this group. But I would also like to know who has a good amount of experience and knowledge on gaming on Linux, so that way this thread can be used to help people use Linux for gaming if they so choose!
If you can change the title (removing the question mark), why not this thread? I play all my games on Linux, sans the Mass Effect series, StarCraft 2 and Guild Wars 2. Soon CS:GO will arrive here aswell.

BOOM! I did as you suggested and bam, it almost looks official haha!
I guess when people join, the best info they could contribute is:
1. Which distro of Linux they are using
2. Experience level with Linux
3. Games that you currently play on Linux, or would like to play if possible
Now, what else am I missing? Feedback is much appreciated, so if at any time someone feels my ideas are less than stellar, set me right!
I agree, that is useful information... I do think that it will also depend on peoples hardware as well. So one persons fps / stuttering / lag could be hardware based and/or software based.
Focusing on the negative aspects people experience with games on Linux should be a big part of this thread / Club, because some people here may have fixes or a work-around that they can share for everyone's benefit! Thank you for the input! Any more suggestions?
I will update the OP in the morning (I am on Germany time) and include the suggestions I receive here!
That's not comforting lol. I know it sounds stupid but the whole reason I even want Linux is because windows 8 sucks so horribly. I just want an easy experience and kubuntu offers that to me. I don't even NEED the console to use it which was nice.

Yea, but don't take it to the bank though. I don't own a 79xx card, so I don't follow the development there. My 6950 works great in Arch though. I can tell you that much.
I know it's asking a lot...but I think I'd be less let down by Valve if they released a game on Linux FIRST. I'd be happy with them if the games they have released were actually all ported and better than Windows performance. L4D2, CS1.6, and Day of Defeat Source are sorely lacking in performance right now. I wish I could find the article but I think it had to do with how Valve is porting games that is basically a "half-way" effort and hence not as good as it could have been. One thing that kind of makes me laugh is how in a 64bit linux install you have to do some work to get flash working or risk running into the crash on video loading bug in Steam. I seriously wish I could accelerate Flash's death because that crappy piece of software has been a bane of my computing life (even in Windows).
I've actually tried that combination for a while before.
The Linux AMD graphics drivers are desperately in need of attention.
It's stutter/frame-drop galore.
That is an awesome idea!! Although there are probably quite a few people who might not use Steam for all of their games, a lot of the newer Linux gamers (such as myself) will use Steam for almost all of their gaming. High-five Shrak!

Yes, I have also heard about the 7000 series having a few issues with the drivers, but that is also why we have this "club", just in case someone who games on Linux knows how to make the best of the AMD drivers for the 7000 series GPUs. My only experience with the AMD drivers was for my APU I ran under Linux, which seemed to run decently. I do have hope the AMD drivers will improve...

I assume you play Dota 2... If you are down to play sometime, let me know!
