WINE is always tricky, especially with some games. WineHQ appDB has some good documentation, but you will always encounter problems that aren't documented and then that is where the fun starts.

Also I didn't know that KDE was lightweight.

Let me rephrase then: "When I take into consideration what I have it do for me, and its esthetics I can't help but feel that everything runs as it should, and in some cases better. I am sure there are options made avaliable to me that would be more efficient, but it runs more than well enough for me."

The db has been a great help. And I appreciate your advice ^^

Can anyone help me to get games working on Linux Mint ?

I don't have an optical drive so trying to load games from .iso files which is adding to the confusion. I seem to have installed a game with Wine but it won't load up, I don't get anywhere with Steam either. I have been Googling for weeks on and off but no luck there either. I need a good guide but don't know where to find one.

I used this page http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/547 which only got me so far. When I try to load the game using "wine /media/games/Setup.exe" it starts the Uninstall Wizard and the only option is to cancel or uninstall.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated thumb.gif

So you're trying to start the game with the setup wizard and not the game executable? wink.gif

Just following the instructions, I did try to use the .exe instead of Setup.exe but that failed too.

Do I have to use POL to install the game first ? I couldn't find any way to use it for a game that's already installed with Wine.

I believe you need to install with POL first.

Thanks for that Rothen.
I had a quick look through the instructions to install from file with POL and my eyes just glazed over as I contemplated getting to grips with Bash scripts rolleyes.gif I will have to be in the right mood for that kind of trickery.
It would probably be much easier to install WXP on a spare HDD and then just use that for games but that feels like a step backwards.

More like 3 or 4 steps backwards, I got to see XP in action this evening, not seen it for a few years, and don't want to see it again !
