If you're using Bash/terminal scripts with POL then you're doing it wrong. It's pure GUI. Install it using your package manager and then search the database for what you want to install. It pretty much has the entire WINE database and preset scripts ready and all you got to do is follow the instructions it tells you. Though you should have the game disc mounted (AKA opened in a file manager). At least that was how easy it was for me to get MSOffice2010 (I know, I know) installed. On a side note...seems sometimes the damn thing likes to crash or fail to install things sometimes. Don't worry just keep trying. If by the 5th attempt though it's not working then you might want to investigate what's going wrong.

I only saw one 'how to' on using POL and that was the advice given although the version shown in the illustrations did appear to be older than the version I have. The game I'm trying to install is FC3 which is not yet in the database, does that mean it can't be done ?

It probably can, but it is too new of a game I assume so you would have to do it manually. You can just install it in vanilla WINE and tweak it to get it working. Apparently it is has a silver rating from the winehq appDB: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=14750

Vanilla = Plain or Original ... Not tweaked or hacked

Thanks for that Shrak, I managed to work it out eventually.

I did try that right at the beginning but got nowhere and that's when I started adding Winetricks and POL. Gonna give it a try with a game that's in the DB and see how I get on using Winetricks to start with, then if no luck will turn to POL.

been playing fallout 4 new vegas on Linux. Run as good as windows in Wine using playonlinux through Steam. No fiddling just worked out of the box really pleased !

runs between 30 and 50fps and this is on a lowly a10-5800k /900mhz GPU core @ 1080p on high settings ! Hope fallout 5 is the same? I am yet to own skyrim (i know,i know) but can anyone confirm if this runs well on wine as its probably the same engine fallout 5 will use?

Hopefully I'll be joining the club, just waiting on a SSD before moving to Mint in the next couple of weeks.

i run mint 15 on an SSD both cinnamon and XFCE desktops as selectable @ user login, the SSD i have is only a slow model (200mbps read write) and its ridiculously quick still. I cant imagine what a 550mbs drive would be like. After post i get to login in around 2.5 - 3 seconds and the desktop load time is about 2 seconds since i installed the full catalyst driver (About 85mb ram usage)

firefox takes about 1 second to load and most other things which are less sizable take even less after their initial setup

I've turned a bit dirty. I installed StarCraft 2 via Wine. tongue.gif

A bit of a problem though; the game runs without any problems. Apart from one thing: very low performance. I get about 10 FPS on Ultra, and no more than 20 FPS on Low. This is unplayable. Do anyone have any experience with this? My system is in my sig.
