Quick question guys, which games seem to run the best for you guys on WINE?  Any RTS games?  Other than Starcraft... Thanks for any input!

for me Fallout 3 and new vegas run great, also elder scrolls oblivion @ 1080p on medium with no AA playing about 30-40fps. The hardware im using is an A10-5800k so the GPU is actually about 20% slower than a 6670! and thats a 60$ card

also natively playing L4D2-beta on Medium settings with no AA @ 1080p @ 50-60 fps and its really smooth with no stutter or lag which isn't surprising seen as the performance has been benched higher than the windows version but given the relatively low performance of the APU im surprised.

theres still more room for improvement in drivers also

I wish I could find some good guides to installing games with Wine and POL, I'm not having any luck at all and seriously considering using a dual boot just for games which I really don't want to do.
When I do find a game in the database, it won't let me install from a .iso or USB stick, I don't have a DVD drive so it's very frustrating. I know I could buy a USB DVD drive but that's not an option for me right now.

Couldn't you just mount the iso on the loop device?
http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/how-to-mount-iso-image-under-linux.html

It's just like having the disc inserted (to the non-existent DVD drive you have)

I select the game in the database (COD4MW), it then says 'insert disc' but I don't have a player. I have tried mounting the .iso first using Archive Mounter and using Terminal but it always asks me to insert the disc which I cannot do.

May I suggest trying out crossover for free? smile.gif It's practically wine with tons of configurations and libs already made and gotten.

Thanks for that suggestion, I have tried to find it but doesn't appear to be available in the Mint repositories so I'll try and see if I can get it from somewhere else then get it working. I expect I'll have to uninstall Wine first.

Here you are doing nothing wrong. This is a WINE quirk. You are mounting it and it isn't mounting where WINE thinks there is a CD drive. I do not know how to fix this in POL. However, in WINE you can type "winecfg" into the terminal, go to drives and point the E:\ (I believe this is the CD drive) to the directory where your archive mounter mounted the disk. Now you are golden and it should install. If you have multiple disks, keep repeating this process every time it requests a new disk.

I have had this problem installing games myself. Good thing it isn't hard to fix.

Thanks for that, I had not been starting wineconfig from the Terminal so it wouldn't allow me to select the mounted drive. After starting from Terminal, I was able to select the correct mounted drive but then found that COD4 was not on the database, only the demo version so I'll have to try another game.

How well does Crysis2 run under Wine ?

I have a mid range GPU (ATI Radeon 7750 Ultimate) and 4GB Ram
