How well does Crysis2 run under Wine ?

I have a mid range GPU (ATI Radeon 7750 Ultimate) and 4GB Ram

I'd assume Crysis 2 runs, probably not gracefully. Also you shouldn't give up on COD4 because it isn't in POL. It definitely is on the WINEHQ AppDB.

Or maybe not, the newer versions of the game look to run like crap. Basically install older versions. It should run fine if you don't update COD4

This is weird, it's showing up in the POL db on my list but not in the list of games supported by Winetricks that I can install. I would assume that it would be the same for both. So I don't have the option to install it with Wine, only with POL but POL will only load from DVD and I can't figure out how to change it. rolleyes.gif

Why not just run the installer from the ISO in WINE and see what happens? Older versions of the game are rated to be platinum. They should run with minimal tweaking.

7750 isnt mid range, a 7850 is mid range. The 7770 is is the top low range and the 7750 is middle lowest (roughly speaking). It might not run Crysis2 that amazing @ 1080p on windows could be wrong unless you intend to turn all the settings down. I remember my 5850 wasnt exactly stellar with that game and thats around the 7850 range

So, if you just browse to the mounted ISO using your file manager (Nemo/Caja), then run the setup.exe or whatever it's called, it crashes? If you run it in a terminal using "wine /mnt/path/to/setup.exe" (obviously replacing with the correct path!), what errors get output to it?

Well I managed to extract the files from the .ISO and run SETUP.EXE and got it installed plus the patches. It all seemed to go well but can't get it to run in single player mode, it says that it can't find the disc and that I need to insert the DVD to continue. It will run in multiplayer mode but it seems a bit jerky and no game servers are found. I only want it for single player right now.

Getting there but still having problems rolleyes.gif

WINE isn't perfect, it's why I gave up and went with a Linux-native attitude, with dual-boot Windows for non-Linux-native games. It's far from perfect, but it's definately a shift in the right direction with Steam

See, I almost do this too... But I figure by sticking to the limited gaming on Linux right now helps me focus on everything else I should be doing.  If I dual booted windows I would play so many games I might not get anything accomplished.  No bueno!  Plus since there are not too many games on linux, it forces me to play through a game completely.  I guess I am just a glass half full kind of person haha /rant
