Laptop APU upgrade!

Thread Starter
So as the title states I tried to upgrade my Toshiba laptop from an a8-4500m to a10-4600m. After I got the new CPU in and power it on I get no image on the screen but everything else seems to work i hear the fan kick in as well as see LED indicators come on and I hear the hard drive spin up! I put the original APU back in and the screen works. If anyone more knowledgeable than me can help would be greatly appreciated!

It did come with a couple bent pins but I straightened them out I don't know if that is the reason?

Laptop OEM motherboards are not like desktop retail motherboards. Chances are that that laptop motherboard does not have any information in it to support that particular CPU and thus does not function correctly.

You can google the board, and see if it supports the APU that you installed. Like the above post, it is not the same as a desktop part in that the majority of parts are not interchangeable, ie. a mobo only supports the APU that came with it. You may get lucky and it is only an update to the bios, but you would be very lucky. Worst case, buy a new board that supports that chipset, assuming you can find one.

Let us know what your findings are!
