what are the AMD Fx 6300 6350 8120 8350 good at

Thread Starter
so I am planning to make a Rig for upcoming games like dayz standalone bf4 and some other games like starcraft 2 arma 3 planetside 2 also maybe some starcraft streaming .

I was currently thinking about getting the Intel i5 3570k with 760
until I came across this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eu8Sekdb-IE

what exactly are good for the AMD fx and games too

for the 8350 is it hard to Overclock to 5ghz will it overheat with the evo 212 with thermal compound?

also why does the i5 beats the 8350 in single thread does i5 the i5 have more MHz in each core or something?
First of even an i5 2500k beats the 8350 at gaming(overclocked ofc). tongue.gif So if you are going to use your PC for gaming most of the time then go with intel. The video is nothing. There are benchmarks all over the web. Doesnt mean they are true. However i did not watch all the video but it s a fact that Intel is better at gaming and amd at some cases better at rendering videos etc... better get the new haswell 4rth gen of CPUs. the 4570k is nearly same cost as 3570k but better . Overclockes higher and easyer without that much of heat.

I5 wins over 8350 beasue they have 4 cores not 8. thus the power is distributed better at 4 cores because most new games start to use 4 cores. the 8350 its using only 4 cores rather that all of its potential(8 cores) so yeah intel beats the 8350 in gaming. But in the future there may be some games that will start to use 8 cores...

I say go with intel mate. the new LGA 1150 with an i5 4570k you will kick ass .. And the evo 212 is one of the best Air collers out there but i dunno if 8350 at 5 ghz. but its OK with intel .

EDIT: You sould buy a gtx 770 as you will see better performance that the 760. the 3 gb model

Go with an i5 if you play those games.

That youtube video is not a good test. There are no minimum frame rates or frame latencies so i would not really take that as accurate information.

If you have not already bought a hyper 212 then dont. There are much better coolers around for the same price.

That video is well known to have unaccurate results. For gaming with AMD the 8350 is around equal to any i5. If you are on a low budget, the 6300 and 8320 are AMDs budget performers.

But really for $200 the 8350 or i5-xxxxk will work fine. If you do go intel go haswell(i5-4670k)

Well, im normally the one to recommend AMD, however i see that you mentioned Starcraft 2, in which case you would be MUCH MUCH MUCH better off going with an i5. Even if it isnt a K series. The i5's have much better per core performance, which is what starcraft 2 and actually planetside 2 both require.

The i5 has what you would caller a better IPC or "Instructions Per Cycle" So while the 8350 may have "more" GHz, the i5's will be more efficient.

My suggestion, get a 3570k, Overclock to 4.2, be done. thumb.gif

The fx 8120 is a piece of crap, since it uses the old bulldozer technology, if you go the AMD route, you should go for a fx 8350 or an fx 6350. But since you are playing games which are heavily single-threaded you will enjoy the i5 3570k. thumb.gif AMD just wont give you the performance you need for these games, or in other words, the AMD chips are horrible in the games you play.

For the record, I agree with the posters above. Generally for gaming at this point in time, I'd go with at least a quad core Intel build.

For reference, I do some SC2 commentating for a small league (silver through masters level play), and I just recently got an FX6300 as a drop in replacement for my PhII 720BE. While recording with OBS, running SC2, starboard, and mumble, I'm hitting ~35% CPU load with my 4.5GHz FX (and was about ~92% with my 720 @ 2.8GHz). I am also getting better than 60FPS in most cases, so it is totally fluid for when I play, and when I commentate. I also saw a huge increase in FPS in handbrake while encoding videos (which I do a lot of because of my HTPC setup). I would say that the FX CPU's do well in both of these circumstances in particular, and should still do a "good" job in most of the other games that you listed. Planetside 2 is perhaps the only exception in my mind of "good" performance, as I hear that game very much prefers intel builds.

So while Intel might be better at gaming, depending on how much you play each of those games that ultimately will determine which setup you should get.

And 5GHz on an 8320/50 is doable, but I don't think most people are sitting there. I'd say mid to upper 4GHz range is a much more common. For me, I'm maxing out my Xig 1283 (similar to the hyper 212) with my 6300 at 4.5GHz and 1.4425vcore, but your results may vary.

Good luck with whatever you do smile.gif.
