Pump mounting/orientation question

Hi, i'm going to be swapping from a pump/reservoir combo to a pump and tube res, and so bought the Bitspower D5 pump mod kit. However, I made the silly mistake of not realising that I also needed a pump top

My local retailer won't have the Bitspower tops in for another week, so in the meantime I was just going to use my res/pump combo.
My question is, does the res/pump have to be mounted with the inlet/outlet ports pointing horizontally, or can I mount the pump with the ports facing vertically? (as in, the faceplate of the combo looks towards the ground while the ports face up towards the top of the case).
Sorry if my description isn't the clearest, I can do a sketch up if it makes no sense

Are you talking about the bay reservoir?

Depending on the exact model, and how the pump is mounted in it, that could be a really bad idea.
Most bay res have the water at front and pump at the back so if it is facing down the pump will upside down, and above the reservoir.
If it is the XSPC Acrylic model with the pump on its side it should be fine though.
