7990 or gtx 780?

With the prices of the 7990 slashed down to 700...wats the better buy for single card setup?
7990 is definitely faster than the 780, if you don't mind the occasional Crossfire glitches / micro-stuttering, and substantially increased heat / power considerations. You're basically looking at Crossfire on a single board with the 7990 dual-GPU.

Ya I was gona go water..just how cf has its glitches n stutter problems wrry me

13.8 beta drivers significantly alleviated the stuttering issues. They are now below the threshold of perception for dx10 and dx11 titles.

I believe these issues were solved with the 13.8 beta driver.

AT that price, there's not many negatives to a malta. It has 4DP and 1 DL DVI, that's about as good as it gets for display ports. Add the new drivers, the price is seals it for me because it is now in perfect price parity with 7970s.

Any way you look at it, it's kind of difficult to beat the current 7990. The only things I can think of vs. the GTX 780 are heat, power usage (which is already higher for AMD cards) and content creation (and even then, that's only Adobe CS6 content creation).

You're going water though, so the heat output becomes a non-issue. So if your PSU is up to the task and you don't mind the higher power usage, then I would definitely go for the 7990. Else, GTX 780, or maybe SLI 670s.

OP if you can wait for phase 2 of the CF frame pacing drivers (DX9, OpenGL, Eyefinity) it would be a clear decision for HD 7990. phase 2 should be out within a month.

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/08/01/amd_catalyst_138_beta_frame_pacing_crossfire_driver/

"AMD is releasing this technology in phases. The driver today, Catalyst 13.8 Beta is Phase 1. In Phase 1 Frame Pacing only works at resolutions up to 2560x1600 on a single display. That's right, Frame Pacing will not work on CrossFire in Eyefinity resolutions in Phase 1. In Phase 1 only games that are DX10 and DX11 are supported, no DX9 games will work with Frame Pacing in Phase 1.

Phase 2 of the driver will come later this month. In Phase 2 CrossFire in Eyefinity resolutions will be supported. There will also be support for DX9 and OGL games in Phase 2. So if you game in Eyefinity, or across multiple displays, or higher resolutions than 2560x1600 then Phase 2 driver is what you will have to wait for. Also, if you want support in DX9 games."
