Radeon HD6770 issues

I have an AMD reference HD6770 that keeps getting read as an HD5770. I am aware that there wasn't much change between the two and that a driver change fixes the issue, however everytime I update the drivers it keeps kicking it back to a 5770. I'm not sure what else I can do. I am getting so frustrated with it that I may just save up and finally buy myself a 7870 or 7970.

So 3 options:
1. Wait for a fix on the 6770/not update the 6770.
2. Upgrade to a 7970
3. Upgrade to two 7870s

The problem with options 2 and 3 is that money is very tight at the moment due to an unexpected hospital bill so keep that in mind when giving advice. The problems I'm running into with the 6770 is that some of my games have been having issues identifying the graphics card and not able to run very well or at all. I've talked to Newegg, I've talked to AMD, they won't do anything for me. It's been an ongoing issue and almost makes me want to switch from AMD and go Intel/Nvidia...

Have you tried completely removing the drivers and then installing a driver that it previously worked with?

Option 3 is a no for sure. Option 2 is good to consider but I would wait a little longer for the new line of AMD GPU, then maybe you can buy a GPU and the price would drop on the 7970

I have tried removing the drivers, I've even done a complete reinstall of Win7 but the games are still having the same issue. Why is Option 3 a no for sure?

Bump. Anyone have any thoughts? I'm about ready to drop the 6770, but money is kind of tight atm.
