Thanks for drifting in guys biggrin.gif
Was wondering when the petrol heads among us would crank up.

Small update with the PCIe cables - sorry for pic quality on these one - indoor lighting & flash thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif
Routed them where I want them to go - no real issues to speak of.
Just shorten the PSU's cables - sleeve them while I'm at it and they'll join the extensions under the PSU biggrin.gif

im all about horsepower. again, clean looking build. you've fully embraced the idea of cable management smile.gif.

I love nice, clean sleeved cables like that. And my first thought when seeing this log was car related as well, think of the 351 Windsor or Cleveland.

Cheers Mate thumb.gif Windsor is what I was thinking of when named the build.

Small update with some more cabling work done.

Finished off the PSU side of the PCIe Extensions - from GPU back to under the PSU.
Humph - no pics - the psu side just need connectors put on, plus pinning and making tidy.
I just guessed an appropriate spot in middle of (under) the PSU for the plugs to be, knowing I could make adjustments with the PSU PCIe cables.
I only made extensions rather than full length because PSU PCIe cables are 6 wires with loop at termination end which I couldn't be bothered dealing with.

1st pic shows the PSU's native length cable and the first one I made - from PSU to the extension under the PSU.
Where the extensions came in from GPU the plug clips are facing towards outside of case, plug for PSU has clip facing the other way.
So new shorter cables had tomade with a 180 degree twist along with 2 x 90 degree bends.
Here is one completed, but upside down in photo.

and the other one trained and ready to make another bend and add the plug to PSU
No finished pics - but came out pretty good.

While working in the general vacinity decided to pull the pump out and finish the little chore on it.
Sleeved the PWM wire even though not using it rolleyes.gif
Put plug on end of power wires so it will plug straight into the PSU.
Left the power wires at full length as easily hidden and might come in handy in another case / another build / another life.....

And finally for this update - Power / Rest / LED cables from the front of case.
I'm always scared of breaking the solder on the switches when doin these - very carefully now !!!

You wouldn't happen to have the dimensions of the back-plate you used, do you? I'm moving my system out of the same case into a different one and I'd like to play with the 351

The slide in Mobo backplate is the stock back plate from the Lian li 351.
The area that mobo screws onto measures 24.7 cm x 24.7 cm.
Perfect for the Gene's uATX Form Factor ( 24.4 cm x 24.4 cm )
I think think that is what you asked about rolleyes.gif
If you need something else measured please let me know and I'll take a look.

Found a shot with the stock back panel still on.

I couldn't resist purchasing an "End of an Era" MIPS RAM block.
6 module block and modules to go with it.
I can't find the photos of it when they arrived rolleyes.gif so here's a downloaded pic of it

Block and heat spreaders are beautiful though.

So off with the G.Skill heat spreaders.....

Then the nightmares began mad.gifmad.gif
While pretty as they are the MIPS heat spreaders - MIPS 242 - is the worst designed thing I have ever come across.
No manual and quick Google gave me nothing useful.
I gave up in the end after 4 hours of frustration !!!
Problem is that there is no pressure sideways to hold the two peices tight together - only screws on the top.
With thermal pads (1mm is all I had) - too fat - cant get close enough together to do up the top screws.
Without pads - too loose - and RAM module slides around inside the heat spreaders.
Use pad on one side and is close to right (so obviously .5mm pads would be the right ones) but still able to move around mad.gif

So thickness kinda sorted out - will get .5mm pads and Arctic Silver Epoxy Adhesive.

BUT I wanted to mock up with block on the mobo.
So did best I could with what I had - as far as paste and pads go.

Putting thew two pieces together - another nightmare - 5 little nuts the are under the bottom spreader.
Always fall out or go skew-iff so need to take apart again to re-seat the screws.

Now logic would tell me to but the top af the ram module to bottom of the spreader.
This would keep it square an have all pieces the same "height" when mounting on Mobo and good contact with the block when fitted.

BUT no, you can't do that with these because the supplied screws are too long !!!!!
When screwing through top into those annoying nuts it keeps going and going and into the RAM stick itself.
So I had to move the RAM stick 3 or 4 mm down from the top to avoid the screws pushing into them.

Unbelievable

Will have to make up a little spacer jig when the epoxy TIM arrives so all six RAM modules are sitting at same height madsmiley.png
