I guess it's these small jobs that turn technical when attempting hidden cable work.
The objective of the day was cabling for the fans - & ended up getting bit extra done
USB Routed for front (side) panel ports.
Firewire and Audio front panel cables tucked away out of site.
Power cable to the SSD put in place - used stock Corsair cable as it was virtually perfect length and should barely be seen - If it annoys me too much I will sleeve it later.
A while back I decided that I wanted all the fans to be powered from a single spot, so I knew I had to route the cables to / from a single spot (except the rear panel fan which is on MB header)
Among the few possible places was on the PSU - unseen, central and usable space.
The smallest I could find was this Phobya 6 port, 3 pin fan power hub.
I made a cable from PSU to the 4 pin molex input of the splitter.
Originally the cable "piggy backed" at the fan power point with the addition lines going to the TV tuner card.
TV tuner part of the cable turned into a disaster - so I ended up cutting the output wires from fan splitter and putting a 4 pin molex plug onto them...
and made a short extension for the TV tuner power - essentially exactly the same but with a joiner plug in the middle.
Sleeved the two fans under the case - didn't reach so used
extensions from some other fans (Click to show)
to get to the fan power hub.
You might just see the clips on bottom left in the pic above routing the front fan cable across.
Here's all the fans wired in and the power cable in place - I double / triple check every cable with multi meter before powering anything up.
And I did give some juice to the fans and all working perfectly at 12v.
The bottom fans are my biggest dilemma atm, As someone predicted previously in another thread, there is not enough clearance for the fans to draw enough air
I can sort of hear them "laboring" a bit with very little air flow - tilt the case and like magic silent fans and dramatic air flow increase.
Thought I had solved problem earlier - but never tested it
- not sure right now....
extend case feet further will look silly, grind out the fan holes closer to side of case so fans are inside OR just not install the bottom fans
I might take another look and see if a bit of filing or grinding the fan frame will help with the clearance for mb headers.
