. The main problem is that they are too damn similar! They are on exactly the same manufacturer, TSMC, on exactly the same process, 28nm, or 20nm or whatever TSMC provides and their designs are always similarly good and barely improve on the same process. They can mainly only improve it with larger dies. They compete mainly on recipes and marketing rather than on technology. e.g. AMD are perfectly capable of making a huge die. Some claim they can't. Really? NVIDIA has a huge failure rate as well. They have so many failures that 780 may exist because of the morbidly low yields of the GK110. One could claim that NVIDIA has a bigger Pro market (Tesla/Quadro) but it's still not something AMD couldn't do and they also try to compete in the Pro market as well with the FirePros.
i.e. Not only I see no reason to "dump" one or another, I see no reason to even see a big difference between them. Let's see one of them being on a different foundry or one of them being hugely worse or better in designs and then we'll see. Right now they are virtually like the same company with variations.
