Gigabyte Windforce - Gold Standard? - Page 2

I've owned 7 Windforce 7950s and 7970s at this point. Gold standard? I don't think so, though they are pretty good. They are decent cards, the cooling is adequate now that they have added a VRM heatsink. They suffer horribly in muli-card configurations, tend to be noisy over 50% fan RPM, and any of them past 1.X revision are voltage locked so you have to flash the BIOS if you want to get after them for more than stock voltage can get you. That is a lot of compromises for a gold standard.

was lurking about checking to see if anyone else had the same results I did... I also have the 8pin +6 pin connectors like the OP and my overclocks easily hit 1225 mhz core and 1400 mem... haven't tried higher yet on memory, but around 1240mhz-1250mhz the core starts to produce artifacts in stress tests... soo seems like 1225 is max... although... given how far beyond the stock clocks for most 7950s 800mhz clock that is... I am very pleased.thumb.gif silly question... is this golden, or just normal for this card though... seems to be the norm for this particular 7950 card to hit clocks this high... I'm just seriously loving the performance that far exceeds my old twin 6850's.
