Since you are talking about the gamecube and PS2, both of those are before HDMI even existed anyway, so if you got a monitor WITH built in speakers, and you wanted to use those built in speakers, you would have to make sure the monitor accepted audio from a non-hdmi source.

Generally those monitor speakers are atrocious though. Even $10 computer speakers sound better. I'd just avoid using them even if your monitor has them, so just ignore that feature entirely. If it has speakers it's just an added if perhaps useless bonus.

So I guess that I'll have to buy a monitor for the visual component of my consoles and separate speakers for the audio components. Thanks a lot, Zero4549! Your information has helped me out a bunch. I think I'll end up deciding between the VN248H and the VS247H-P (it's $20 cheaper than the VS248H-P and have about the same specs but doesn't have the IPS panel) and learning how to attach the audio to my speakers.

If you want IPS and built-in speakers probably a lot cheaper.
