Is this Motherboard any good?

Thread Starter
Hey all,

I'm trading my Laptop for a Intel i5 650 alongside a Gigabyte Ga-H61M-D2P. I don't really get the option to change in as I'm swapping and this is already installed.

I'm wondering at the time when this was made, was it a 'decent' motherboard? Im also wondering if I can plug in my Razer Electra's inline Mic & Audio to the back of the board; does it have this plug?

I'm also hoping I can plug in a Radeon HD 7870 in this motherboard?

What's it like at overclocking too?

Thank's for reading.

So which it is H61 or H55? For 650 you need a LGA1156 board like H55 ones.

The link and what you wrote are different.
The i5 650 will work with the one you linked to(GA-H55M-D2H). Both are 1156 CPUs
It is an OK motherboard. Nothing special. Should be fine for normal use.
The GPU will work fine with it. It actually has support for Crossfire so you can use 2 GPUs if you want!
The headset will also work fine the board has 7.1 audio support and a mic in on the back.

I would not attempt to overclock on that motherboard. The VRM system is pretty weak and has no cooling at all. If you overclock you can easily make the MOSFETs overheat and kill the board.

If you can, try to get something a bit newer, the 1156 platform is pretty old now, and the newer stuff has much better features and performance.

Let me know if you have any more questions!
