Run two dual GPU cards on a two-way SLI/Crossfire board

Like the title says, can you run two 7990/690 on a board that only supports two-way SLI/Crossfire? Or can you only run one of them?

If you can already do 2-way CLI/XFire, what limits 3 or 4 way is the number of PCIe slots, spacing, and lane allocation. Using dual GPU cards eliminates all of that so it should work fine. You could also run one of those cards in a board that doesn't support SLI or XFire at all.

Oh, I wasn't sure if the PCI-E slots were the limit or if the board just wouldn't let you run more than two GPUs in SLI/Crossfire. Thanks for the answer, was just curious. +1 Rep
