Ok I have $500 dollars burning a hole in my pocket, before the wife decides we spend it on something else I saw a small opertunity to upgrade my rig heres what I have and what iam thinking about getting, Maybe you guys can push me in the right direction? 1st of all iam seriously considering this- Asus Maximus V Extremme- Lga 1155- $299 at micro center, and a Core i5 3570 k- That would put me at $498 dollars! ..... I have 2 Radeon 6970s I can put in there in the mean time would it run better then my fx 6100 on my Asus M5A97 board? Or the other option is this............ HIS radeon 7950 Ice q $269x 2!? Or Msi Radeon 7970 OC frozer edition-$359......Or this card its SEXY AS HELL- Diamond Radeon 7970 ( red) dual fan- $369 ? Whats the best bang for my buck with these parts? I kinda want the new mobo and cpu to run on my 6970s or i can just swap my gpus out what would give me a better overall package? ...................Ive also considerd getting the Asus crosshair v with the Fx 8350 that can be done as well what do you guys think i schould do? I dont want haswell no offence towards anyone!

I'd upgrade the mobo/cpu first. i5 3570 is a great gaming proc, the 8350 is wasted for games because all those cores aren't gonna be used.

Why are you buying a $299 mobo? Does it actually have features you need or? I'd recommend either the asrock z77 extreme 4 if you are going 3570k or GA-Z77X-UD3H (gigabyte)

You don't really need a video card update, 2x 6970 isn't going to be beat (badly) by a single 7950/70 I don't think

Why not get haswell if you are going to do a new purchase ? You are only saving $20 or so by getting ivy bridge.

Well the reason behind not wanting to get Haswell ive seen guys saying theres no improvment in performance so thats why iam considering the Lga 1155 z77 mobo/cpu combo. As far as the video cards go 2 radeon 6970s will beat a single 7970 most of the time but if i crossfire the 7950s iam not sure what to expect! Ive wanted that Asus extremme board for a LONG time now!~

Honestly, I think $300 mobos for gaming are a waste of money but if you want it, it is your money after all.

The extreme 4 is $135 and the GA-Z77X-UD3H is $150 so basically half the price of the mobo you are looking at. I would have to do research to figure out what features the mobo you are looking at has over these as they are feature packed.

So you could get one of those mobos + an i5 3570k for $375/$390 or so. Do you have 1600mhz ram already? If not you are going to want that.

You will have a little bit of money left over to give to the wife or take her out on a nice dinner and make her forget you bought some sexy new equipment.

I have the Z77X UD3H and it works quite well for me except for one issue. Some of the USB ports work intermittently

I had to play musical USB ports with my mouse to find which one would work without freezing for 1-2 secs randomly (a big issue when gaming). I ended up plugging it into the front panel of my case and it has been fine since then.

Just a heads up.

Mmm Porterhouse...

Anyway, I would recommend going with an Asrock board, their quality is fantastic and the features for the prices are rock solid. Combine that with a new cpu and you should be sitting pretty for awhile since I can not imagine 2 6970s would be sweating too hard right now.

If Microcenter is an option I would get this mobo:
http://www.microcenter.com/product/414559/Z87_Extreme4_Socket_LGA_1150_Z87_ATX_Intel_Motherboard

With this CPU:
http://www.microcenter.com/product/413248/Core_i7_4770K_35GHz_Socket_LGA_1150_Boxed_Processor

you save a bunch of money for a amazing cpu and solid mobo and still have enough to take that wife of yours out for dinner.

EDIT: Also if your heading to Microcenter keep an eye out for physical copies of Black Ops 2 for the PC, they are selling them out for $9.99 which is a steal. Even if its not your cup of fps, I'm 100% sure you could sell the keys for at least double that.

Thats funny you mentioned the Black ops 2 I actually work at the Westmont location and I havent seen that game anywhere! Yeah i would buy it for $10 bucks no questions asked! I dont know what to say about the Haswell guys I really didnt wanna make that move to haswell something about it just feels wrong to me. But since we talking cpus anyway what about a 8350 with the crosshair motherboard?

Its a VERY nice board indeed!~ Its to bad I cant post any photos 4 you guys ( sorry ) Its ok I always wanted a ROG board now I can finally do a nice custom black and red ROG build-It will look real classy! .................I was looking around at benchmarks and since the 8350 pretty much is tied with the 3570 k I decided to stay with AMD- Kinda glad I did, I dont like Haswell at all 4 some reason~

oh iam aware of that but I decided to be a gentlemen and give my wife $250 dollars back so she can buy herself something, its ok ill just pick it up now in 2-3 days when my check comes in no worries. They offerd me the formula-z + 8350 for $400 out the door- I skipped

Honestly guys and iam saying this like from all my heart, I really did have the money that day to drop on a Haswell set-up but 4 some reason I just wanted the 8350 set-up with the ROG board- My original plan was to buy the Maximus Extremme board for $400 dollars then pick-up the 3770 k, they didnt have it in stock so here I am lol. Thats ok I can still put together a Intel rig once I finish this one. That would be my 3rd rig in 1 year NICE~
