Which cooler to replace and improve on CNPS10X Performa while H100i is RMA?

Hello guys, Difficult question for ya here.

I used to run a H100i but the RGB controller died like many H100i's before it... It's off to RMA now and i'm running a Zalman CNPS10X Performa w/ 2 Enermax Apollish Vegas Blue 120MM 2000RPM fans.

In this case (Thermaltake Chaser MK1) a proper air cooler looks real nice thanks to the window and I have to admit that I don't really want to go AIO water again cause I want to have a 360mm rad in the top and the Swiftech H320 isn't out yet...

So, the H100i, when I get a new one back, will be sold as a new unit.

The problem is really, that that Zalman CNPS10X Performa doesn't have the power it needs to cool my beast of a i5 2500K.. Also, the 2500K is going out soon if performance in BF4 Beta is not to my liking so I'm looking for a 2600K / 3770K Delidded to upgrade it with.

Well, i've read ~8 reviews from main tech sites of the CNPS10X Performa and I was shocked to see it beating the Megahalems / Venomous X with ease in all of them and being scary even with the NH-D14 in most reviews..

It has to cool a 5.1Ghz @ 1.408v 2500K which now hits ~86c in Prime95 and ~68-70c in games. It's not too bad but I'd like to be more like ~60c in-game and ~70c in Prime like my H100i did with 4 of those Enermax beasts strapped to it.

Also, I have high-profile RAM. G.Skill RipjawsX to be precise. I tried to fit a CNPS12X and it was unable to fit due to the RAM and the VRM sinks of my P8Z68-V Pro.

So, which aircooler should I be getting that's:

- ~10c better then a CNPS10X Performa (It's mounted with PK-1 now. Usually I use CLU but it's a bit expensive so I used PK1 now).
- Preferably not HDT since I want to use CLU and HDT + CLU can be quite difficult to get right.
- CANNOT have a Aluminum base as CLU corrodes aluminum.
- Has to have proper RAM / VRM sink clearance. (The CNPS10X Performa fits fine, even with push-pull, as long as I use RAM slots 2 and 4. Luckily this board can use the ''B'' channel just fine)

OR. Do you guys say, please imprezz, just stick with your AIO and be done with it.

What is the temperature directly in front of cooler under full load as compared to room temp?

Pretty much ambient. I have a really voer the top airflow in my case with 5 120mm's, 4 140mm's and 2 200mm's.

This 2500K is a extremely hot one. It cannot be cooled by the reference cooler either. It hits ~80c load in Prime with 1.176v stock.

But, this is probably exactly the reason it overclocks so extremely well. The H100i kept it at decent temps on 5.3Ghz 1.472v with CLU and 4 Enermaxes and it is rock solid at that speed only it needs a LOT of cooling power...

Temps intake should be about 20-22c. Idle temps of the CPU with EIST enabled (1600Mhz 0.944v) are 28-25-25-26 right now.

Right now I really fancy the Blue Edition of the Megahalems but I can't get it in Holland yet. I'll have to order from casekings.de and pay a LOT of shipping form Germany to be able to get one of those frown.gif

Venomous X Black or the Black Megahalems seem to be worse then the CNPS10X Perf. according to the reviews so..

EDIT: I'm strongly thinking of going with the very well priced BeQuiet! Dark Rock 2 Pro.
I'll strap my 140mm 1500RPM Enermax Appolish Vegas 90CFM fans to it wink.gif

Phanteks PH-TC14PE in black would do the job. Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme will too if it will fit. It has 130cfm/2500rpm fans and outperforms H100 by 7c and only 1dBA louder. biggrin.gif

Dark Rock Pro .= . 7x 6mm pipes 133x124x166mm 133x149x166mm w/ 120mm & 135mm PWM fans
*cooler base to bottom fin. (add 8mm for motherboard to bottom fin.)
**fins are at 3 different levels

K2, D14 & TC14 are about same size cooler. TC14 with 2x 140mm fans can be problematic with ram clearance.

SB-E is widest by 15mm. Even wider with TY-150 fan = 170.

Extreme is 155mm wide because TY-143 fan is 151mm wide.

I had a TC14PE a while and it performed amazing but I found it a bit too big for my liking.

I'm not a big fan of dual-towers in terms of looks. The Dark Rock looks kinda nice with the top plate and all but yeah, this PC is a ''show'' rig as well. That's why it's loaded with Enermaxes smile.gif
