AMD to INTEL...yep im switching over.

Thread Starter
Budget - Uknown. $500-$600 probably

CPU- quad or more

Motherboard - ATX only (Gigabyte(preferred)

RAM - 8 GB

Hey guys...looking to switch over for my next upgrade. Been AMD for many years now and am itching for an upgrade and a change in things.
Mainly use system for gaming ( Battlefield, Crysis, NFS, planetside 2, Blacklight, etc... ) school, I do want to get into video capture and editing. Overclock is a must for CPU and RAM. At least 1 GHz over for CPU. Im leaning towards Haswell but hence while Im here for a push in the right direction.

Any and all suggestions are welcome. Current rig is in sig(Twisted) thumb.gif

If it uses solder, Ivy Bridge-E would probably be a better option but will possibly go slightly over 600$ (maybe 650$). It will be more expensive but the solder will allow you to reach lower temps and therefore get a better overclock. You also get more features with the boards like extra SATA ports.

Gigabyte Z87x-UD4's are 114.99 at the Houston Micro Center right now then you get 40 dollars off with a 4670k or 4770k purchase.

yea...im about 40 min from houstons micro center.... worth the drive for me. Also have a Frys close by and Directron's warehouse is in houston as well.

What is the difference in the z87, 67 etcc.... just a basic explaination. extra features ???

i do already have some ddr3 1333 Ripjaws ram so I dont HAVE to have ram unless something else would help with OC better?

well if you could get some 2133/2400 ram it would help, 1333 is the only ddr3 that has performance impact minimum i recommend 1600 but since the price is so close to 2133 i rather get those speeds
