2x7950 bottleneck?

Thread Starter
Sup guys I haven't been able to find much on this particular topic so I'm thinking I'll be ok.

Getting ready for my 2nd 7950 next month. I have a 2600k @4.5

Google search doesn't turn up much on this topic which leads me to believe it's not a common problem. Before you people start, yes I need both of them...BF4/Ultra/27''1440p nuff said.

So what do y'all think? Will I get max potential? Discuss

*side note* Corsair TX750....I know I'll be cutting it close but most think I'll be ok. Thoughts?

sb-e is the only one with enough pci-e lanes on the board and chip to not "bottleneck" at all from how i understand it so no you wont be getting 100% of the scaling that is possible. Also your board is only 3 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots (PCIE2/PCIE4: single at x16 or dual at x8/x8 mode; PCIE5: x4 mode) unless you have a different rev board. If you can fit them in slots 2 and 4 then you should be ok as thats the amount PCI-e lanes sb has anyway and anything extra would be processed on a offset or plx chip.

With your overclock i think you should see a nice gain IMO.

Edit: Please Correct me if I misinterpreted anything.

In BF3 depending on the map yes. The thing is 4770K is not much faster.

I've crossfired 7870's on this board and the scaling was fine almost 100%. The lanes run at 2x16 actually its one of the reasons I bought the board 2 years ago, I'll have to check my sig. Only thing I'm concerned about is the chip.

BF4 hasn't launched yet, so nobody can assure you.
But the i7 2600K depending on situations and games played can bottleneck crossfire/ SLI setups. Some people say i7 2600K in no way bottleneck CF/ SLI setups but this is just BS.
In games such as Crysis 1 you might occasionally see poor GPU usage due to being CPU limited, same with BF3 depending on map and situation.
i7 2600K can bottleneck cards, but it is less of a bottleneck than an FX 8350, i5 2500K or Nehalem CPUs for example.

Knight is right while the vast majority of the time the CPU won't bottleneck you and most people think that is absolute, some games like Crysis 3 / BF3 have shown quads can not be enough at times even with HT. The 8X 2.0 lanes don't really hold you back too much and show a very small 3-7% decrease in performance when compared to 8x 3.0 / 16X 2.0 when only using two gpus so it really shouldn't be an issue.

The difference shouldn't be huge by any stretch in your CPU and a better chip like a 4770k/3770k so there really isn't a better option to upgrade to save IVY-E in a bit and six cores but hat would cost about $850 just for the board and a 4930k.

I say you don't even worry about it just try to take that sucker a but higher to like 4.6 or 4.7 just to get that extra needed oomph for those massive 64 man maps in BF4, then upgrade when Skylake rolls around, maybe Broadwell but I doubt it will be a big enough improvement over your current Sandy . thumb.gif

While they ARE 16X lanes that's only if you're only using one or the other, when used both together they fall back to 8X each.

On 1440p bottleneck is far smaller then on 1080 screen, so also consider that, i have i5 3570 at 4.7 GHz and in bf3 on mediums maps, i am almost always over 90% gpu usage, gpus are overclocked too.
