Is there a trick to optimizing my quad sli? (Gtx 690)

I have 2x GTX 690's and for the life of me, I cannot get these cards to perform adequately. I'm in the bottom 5% scoring for GTX 690's in 3dmark firestrike. I get less FPS in Crysis 3, Metro Last light, and Hitman Absolution. I know these cards are not performing the way they should because they don't compare anything to the benchmarks I've been looking at. Is there a tweak or some kind of fix for this issue? It's really bad.

Cpu - 4770k 4.4ghz (stable
mobo - Asrock z87 Extreme 6

I have the EVGA 1000, plenty of power from what I understand, how do I put "Gen 3" in my bios? I have the most update bios from ASrock, but I don't know what "gen3" is
