Stick with 6950 or upgrade?

Should I stick with my 6950 a few more months and upgrade later(assuming 9xxx series is soon)? Or should I upgrade to a 7950-7970? Thanks!

I play everything at 1080p. The 6950 doesn't quite give me the frames I'm looking for in the heavier games like BF3 and such. I have it running at 840 core with stock memory speeds. It doesn't take well to memory clocks. It also runs warmer since I use two monitors but I don't game on the 2nd monitor.

Honestly, I would wait. If money is not a factor and you have already had it for so long, waiting a bit longer shouldn't be too hard. Best of luck for whatever you do decide to do! thumb.gif

Thanks for your input. My son has a gaming rig now using my old Phenom II 945 c3 with a AM2 board and DDR2-800. When I upgrade my GPU I think I may get myself a different mobo and ram as well and pass this mobo to him and put my 6950 in his rig. He is only 6 but he loves to watch and play them as well. He really enjoys Terraria!

I'm around the same crossroad.
I have a CF of 6950's, but since I not play as often as I used to I have only one running.
I was thinking about moving towards a 7970 which has the same performance of a 6950 CFX, also the new card is less power hungry and has 3GB of VRAM which we will need in the future, hell, we need it with the last Tomb Raider.

Taking in account that my Phenom 965 already bottlenecks a 7970 by ~10 FPS in some games, I would be misusing a HD9K card, but maybe this cards will bring more VRAM.
What do you, people, suggest me to do?
Go for a 7970 3GB or wait until the release of the new cards and see how they perform?

OP get a HD 7950 and overclock it to 1100+ mhz for the best value for your money. ideal for 1080p gaming. there are some crazy deals on very good HD 7950 cards for USD 250 - 270.
