Completley new rig? Go conroe.

Upgrading for 939? Go Opty 165. [Opteron 165, regarded as the best socket 939 dual core proc.]

Upgrading for AM2? Get a dual core I guess.

I can't really tell what you are wanting to do

Don't worry

Will you be needing a new PSU?

I would advise looking at the RDX200CF-DR - its not got SATAII but SATAII hard drives are backwards compatible with SATAI ports, and also its only $60

So you are starting from scratch? Build a complete Core 2 Duo rig.

AMD is a waste of money at this point, sorry to say.

that AM2 4200+ is a good overclocker, plus the DDR2 on the AM2 sockets OWNs the c2d when it comes to memory bandwidth. Dont listen to everyone when they say "get a conroe" that is so generic here. Get what YOU want and you will happier in the end.

Edit: stay away from that one stick of pqi value DDR. If you want to do AM2 you want to do dual channel memory, get a 1gb or 2gb kit of g.skill or mushkin. It makes a WORLD of difference.
