What causes gpu overclocking limitations? - Page 3

I have SLI 680 Lightning's on a 1000W HALE90 V2 that I just got (well, not just... a few weeks after it became widely available), replacing the Corsair AX1200 that was in the rig prior. Ripple is down, actually, and stability is about as perfect as you can get.

Gained an extra 10MHz per card tongue.gif

Oh, a few other things I've noticed:

ALWAYS, ALWAYS plug in any "supplemental" power plugs on your motherboard!!! Gigabyte tend to use SATA Power Connectors next to the SATA Drive Connectors (at least on the UP7 and newer boards, they do), Asus tending to prefer 6pin PCIe Power connectors on their highest end boards and 4-pin MOLEX on the rest, etc. Distributing the load over more wires, and providing a less resistive path to the PCIe lanes, is a good thing! This is not only for 4-way SLI; use it for single cards as well!

If you are running 1-2 cards, then use completely separate cables for EACH power input on the card(s). Don't use one cable that splits into a 6pin and then a 6+2pin, but instead use two separate 6pin from the PSU. Less load on the wires is a good thing, and power delivery is a bit more consistent.

yes i definatley agree on the seperate pcie cables! if you have room, which in my case i have more than enough, on your psu for 2 pcie wires instead of one i do recommend it. Just helps your card get a little bit more power that it may need.
