Picking Up a New Laptop

Thread Starter
I am looking to buy a laptop for school this year. I have spent a few hours browsing, yet I'm not quite sure of where price/performance stands for laptops. I have found a few that seem decent, so I figured I'd ask for some input. A Lenovo and an ASUS. I don't know if these are any good for the price I'd pay. I am looking to pay around $600, $700 max(give or take $20-$40 of course). The most I could see myself needing power for is a game of Civ 5,and potentially an MMO in the future. I also plan to either get a Hybrid drive setup or to just replace the hard drive with an SSD sometime in the future. Other than that Touch is a bonus, sorta want to try out Civ 5's touch capability, but its not something I'd lose sleep over. Any input is much appreciated, I have little clue when it comes to laptops.

Take a look at them Asus N series laptops. They are at a good price-performance ratio. Just pick the one that best suits your budget. If you want a more detailed recommendation I suggest you post some more information on what you are looking for such as:

1. Size. (Ultra portable? portable? mid sized? desktop replacement? etc.)
2. Usage. (Office? Gaming? Multimedia? etc.)

Alright I will definitely take a look. As far as anything like size, it really doesn't matter, maybe mid sized if I had to choose. It will be used for school work, and very limited gaming.

My suggestion is to get a 14" laptop with 1366x768 resolution. An i3 would be enough but try to get one with discrete graphics like say a GT630 or the equivalent. This should be right around your budget. I'm sure there's an Asus N-series with these specs, you can just go to their website and look for them.

Cheers.

Thanks for the help! Also, do you have any clue where I can purchase an N series at? They are seemingly pretty hard to find.

Looks like your from South Carolina US? Sorry man I'm kinda from South East Asia so can't really help you with where to find them. A good idea would be to order them online from the usual sites, amazon, newegg, or others. Try to start there.

The first link redirected me to newegg's front page. I might just get that ssd, they have a sale on the 120GB version, which would be more than enough space for what I plan to have on it.
