That article is crap.
as performance of the 5.0GHz $900.00 FX-9590 was not what was expected.
Anyone who's owned an 8350 during the past year and overclocked it could have told this idiot what the performance level of the FX-9590 would be. Anyone who didn't know what to expect had their head stuck up their rectum.
The Phenom architecture hit its wall. They had 32nm cores and they were not better than their 45nm counterparts. With that no, I personally would not like to see them do something like put old cores on a new fab and just jam a few more in there.
They would never just resurrect the Stars core design and put more cores on it. If they had wanted to do that, they could have just released the Magny-Cours Opteron as a Phenom II on AM3, the same way they turned Istanbul into Thuban.
However, I do wonder if they couldn't do what Intel did several years ago, when their Israeli design team figured out a way to take all of the good features of Netburst, graft them onto the P3 Tualatin, die-shrink the whole thing and then take over the world again.
