[TT] AMD FX-9590 Kiss of Death? Last FX CPU From AMD? - Page 5

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews/1765/pg1/amd-richland-apu-launch-review-a10-6800k-and-a10-6700-the-apus.html

These are just a few articles that test the 6800k against Intels offerings, well what is available in the line up for desktop so no Iris pro 5200. At any rate, AMD performs well, not top-o-the line but very well and quite early in the design process. I see good things coming from this.

In the one of the linked articles I did find it quite entertaining that the power consumption chart showed a point I had made before: The 8350 is an 8 core compared to Intels 4 cores, so it is only reasonable that it would use quite a bit more power. The 6800k is a 4 core and it uses the same power as the Intel's 4 cores. Not the same performance per watt I know, but still that is a far better comparison for power consumption.

But apparently you cant read the part where I said between Intel and AMD. And seeing how Nvidia cant make CPUs or iGPUs ignorance too seems to be an issue.

Edit: and now I see you added more to the post. Problem there is I said nothing what so ever about CF or integrated/discrete.

Beside with HSA full implantation that mediocre 4 core will operate like a hefty 6 core. Desktop isn't disappearing just evolving. Besides AMD has spent years not changing the market to showcase their architecture, and with the consoles it looks they might actually be able to do so now.

Are you sure about that? Performance / Watt Intel has the upper hand. It's kinda sad that Intel has managed to catch up to and surpass AMD even on the graphics front.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

You can make wattage the big issue but a GT 640 is a mere $80 and it's beating a chip from Intel that costs $600+.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6993/intel-iris-pro-5200-graphics-review-core-i74950hq-tested/19

Comparing the price of i7 4800MQ vs i7 4950HQ, it seems Intel is charging roughly $300 for Iris Pro 5200. Do you think Nvidia is charging $300 for GT 650m?

You are just picking and choosing metrics which sound good to you (which happen to be wattage while completely ignoring price). If you want to play the game of just focusing on a specific metric, I can just compare a 32 core Opteron system to a Core i3 and then say that Intel sucks because it's slow. That's completely wrong and it's what you're doing.

The FX line is dead. AMD more than likely sacrificed it with the FX 9590 by using it as a means to show that AMD isn't just a bunch of sub $200 chips. Which kind of leads me to believe that AMD is preparing everyone for a product that might actually be worth that price. It's a common tactic and we just saw Nvidia do it with Titan to get people ready for a $650 GTX 780, which was $100 more than a GTX 680 which was more than a GTX 580.

It's just FX 9590 didn't have the performance relative to the competition but if AMD released a new chip with a new brand that was vastly better than FX 8350 and cost around $400, it wouldn't be so shocking comparing it to FX 9590, now would it?

Now if you turned around and compared it to $200 FX 8350 (which you can usually find on sales) and the highest end suddenly doubled in price, it'd look pretty bad and relatively off-putting because the folks who spent $200 and got AMD high end now spend $200 and get AMD mid-range. A new successor to FX 9590 that was faster and cost less would make it seem like a really good value.

if amd could pull off a chip that was around the 300-500$ mark that was good at single and multi threaded apps and games, id actually bust out my amd system again biggrin.gif this 4770k runs way too hot to clock past 4.5 frown.gif

Nope, I plan on just getting i7 IB + 650M laptop, now that Kaveri Mobile is delayed to sometime in 1H 2014.

I was merely saying that Iris Pro is technically the fastest iGPU out there, nowhere did I imply it was a good deal. Think of where Intel was with SB's iGPU and where they are now

Agree with your reasoning here.

The thing is though, in the latest AMD Server roadmap, Steamroller is nowhere to be found in non-APU form.

Now if you turned around and compared it to $200 FX 8350 (which you can usually find on sales) and the highest end suddenly doubled in price, it'd look pretty bad and relatively off-putting because the folks who spent $200 and got AMD high end now spend $200 and get AMD mid-range. Honestly I would like to see some HSA enabled benching. How single and multicore application speeds boost with HSA. I have seen the Adobe one but more interested in a more round look at its capabilities. Conjecture on theory is great for a while but cold hard facts are way more entertaining in the long run.
