Windows Server 2012 Slow Performance

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

I recently replaced windows 7 with windows server 2012 on my computer (core i7 machine, used mainly for scientific software). It runs fine, but when I run some common benchmarks like super PI or Cinebench, it gives significantly lower score than in windows 7. Even after I set priority to real-time, it is still slower, and sometimes I saw it lags for like half second.

What is the possible reasons for lagging? Thanks in advance.

Check for any diagnostic messages regarding your hard disks/ Check your hard disk(s)
I have had similar problems and found that MS was telling me that my drive was about to bomb out.

Thanks for reply. But how/where did you check the diagnostic message? I am pretty sure my hard drives are fine.
The way it lacks looks like there is other program running which has higher priorities. But even when I manually set super Pi at real-time priority it still lags.

Even on high end hardware, I wouldn't call Server 2012 "quick," at least compared to Server 2008 R2. I've never run any comparative benchmarks of W7 vs Server 2012 on the same hardware, and likely nor have many others because the two OSes are designed to perform different roles.

Seriously though, Server Manager draaaaags like crazy even on smokin' hardware. I'm not referring to my sig setup, either; it's slow even on 8-12 disk 15k RAID 10s backed up by high end E5-2600s and 64+GB RAM. I would consider moving back to 7 or to Server 2008 R2, both of which may well be the best operating systems that MS will ever make.
