Ah, I thought it started with the CPU upgrade and so I was thinking it was compatibility smile.gif Good luck with the shims, and don't forget to use some good paste with them!

Thanks. I have thermal adhesive and some more arctic silver 5 to put between the shims and the heatsink.

Update: Copper shims didn't do anything. This machine is trashed.

I've already dropped enough money into this thing. I'm just going to buy a new desktop when I can gather enough funds for it. Thanks for the help though.

Even if you fixed it, it would have only been temporary. That's why i said its basically dead, i buy, fix and sell laptop everyday I've seen this stuff before.
