It won't be till around November that we will know if AMD will be going for an AM3+ steamroller, so it isn't a dead socket yet. I am patiently waiting. Unless you need more multithreaded performance now, wait and save the dough for the new hotness. No reason to spend the money if you don't need it. Also, even though the new consoles are 8 cores, they are weak compared to their desktop compadres... One edit. It irks me that people complain about the modules. For those that are smart enough to type a legible sentence please look at a picture. For every module there are how many physical cores. Oh yeah, two. They are called modules due to the fact that two cores share resources, and the two cores are paired. two cores... Come on, put on your big boy or big girl pants and get over it. If you don't like it, buy Intel, they want your money at a premium profit....
I dont need more multi threads but looking for more horse power for the future to compete with next gen consoles.
I say AM3+ is a dead socket cause it is, and there will be no steam roller cpu's released on am3+.
There was a amd press release on xbitlabs forums and anandtech forums stating that the fx9000 series of chip would be the last for that socket and steam roller will be released on a new socket.
Only Kaveri showing as the only steam roller part for desktop release.
That being only a quadcore part just like the 6800k is now.
This made me very uneasy all the sudden, but not to worry as I am still happy with my current set up and didnt plan on parting with it.
I have that spare 6800K still factory sealed that I bought and its just collecting dust since I am using my 750K instead, so I just figured I could return the 6800K to newegg and exchange it for the fx8350 for the same price I got the 6800K for seeing how the fx8350 is on sale for $170 plus I have a 15% discount on any item of my choice.
So..... I guess I could hold off for a while but time is ticking on the return/exchange of my 6800K to newegg...
Before I get flamed to death here is the link for you all to read...
