Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I will just wait for now guys, and return the 6800K for some extra cash or credit.
I guess I will get me a FM2+ K series cpu when they are released.
I hope that they are really 30% stronger then current amd offerings.
So Agrims, will this 30% performance boost be in the cpu power or the igpu power or both??
I would kill for a 30% performance boost in the cpu side alone since I use a discrete graphics card and really dont give a hoot or haa about integrated graphics this or that .
And no I wont jump ship to intel because they are about to do the same thing as amd as in they are releasing a new socket yet again for there upcoming 8c/16t cpus.

There'snothing in that link from amd saying they confirmed it?

unless im missing something here lol

Nothing has been confirmed by AMD. And even If steamroller won't make it to FX, piledriver opterons will be sold throughout 2014, which means improved visheras will be out too.

Yeah, the 30% will be on the CPU side, as they are finally splitting resources between cores vice straight up sharing them, getting a boost in IPC, and some other tweaks to the arch.

The current achitechure is actually quite clever but it needs work. If you think about it, AMD can just keep adding modules at a lower price then intel without a major re-design.

As for the OP, I would wait untill kaveri is released in early 2014. This will be FM2 but with a hopefully significant performance increase

I started with an fm2 board.....got bored with limited options. I moved up to an Am3+ with an 8120, it was great but I wasn't satisfied with the buggy 8120 so I lucked out and bardered my 8120 for a new 8350 while doing a build for a friend. Awesome friend! since the I love it, no issues even after some really dumb 4am tinkering. Only negative I have is the turboboost which can be turned off. It seems that gaming is going in this direction, we just need to be patient. I'm no expert, but I do have too much time on my hands lol

For my usage the FX 8359 octa core is perfect.

Putting it into real world perspective, I run two virtual Linux machines with Virtual-box "@ the same time" assigning 2 cores to each VM. While doing so I can watch TV @ 1080p "stutter free" have a running game, or listening to streaming audio, or any combo thereof . while having hundreds of tabs running in the browsers across the VM's and withing windows 7 itself .

Benchmarks vs Intel aside the 8 core FX series is a beast. To be brutally honest I couldn't do what I do now, on a single I7 or I5 "I'd probably be stuck on lockup at the two virtual machine stage " fictional hyper threaded cores simply don't cut the mustard in my world". For the record I'm not hating on Intel they make great power efficient processors. But I would need a dual socket server setup to achieve what I can accomplish with the single FX 8350 daily without complaint it is truly a workhorse.

Let the 8350 shine where it should people, it's not all about gaming.

The actual challenge between an FX 8350 and I7 3770k should be how much can you literally run on it simultaneously smoothly.thumb.gif
