Is Haswell 4770K poor for overclocking - Page 5

Let me jump on the bandwagon.
I nearly made a new thread, but luckily found this smile.gif
I'm coming from a comfy 4.5ghz fx-8320, so i needed opinions on the haswell change, in terms of OC and speed. It seems it can OC just as weel/nearly as well as the FX, so one question remains, what is a realistic goal with a dual tower air cooler (Alpenföhn K2 / Deepcool Assassin), or on H110.
I know all chips are different, but can i aim for 4,3-4,4ghz with one these?

Board is a Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H, yeah the microcenter dealone smile.gif

Hop onto my thread.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1411077/haswell-overclocking-thread/

Has data from members all over the forums. Expect an overclock of 4.5-4.6 on average AFTER you've learned how to do it. If you have questions, ask in the thread, don't twist two knobs, fail, and call Haswell crap. If you factor in the IPC improvements from Ivy and Ivy from Sandy, Haswell generally comes out on top while having the newer chipset.

Haswell overclocking is as simple as Sandybridge and Ivybridge, as long as you keep temps in check and make sure you're adjusting ring voltage along with the main CPU voltage. Haswell is just different, seems to be taking people longer to grasp it. 4.6Ghz is possible on any Haswell CPU, 4.6Ghz haswell destroys higher clocked Sandybridge and Ivybridge chips, all while using less power.

You also need to check ring multiplier as that can stifle overclock... and maybe adjust Vrin in higher voltages.

That is, if the power supply is certified to use with the C7 state, else the i7-3770k is the more power efficient one. Overclocking wise, the power draw is equal to Ivy.
