7900 GT temps

Thread Starter
Just hooked up with a new one, and stock idle is 50c, and load is bouncing around 70c. I'm only familiar with ATI, so are these temps normal, and for that matter, is there room for overclocking... or should I go get a zalman cooler.

Loads in the 70's is not bad at all, you've got plenty of room to overclock. General rule is below 90c at all costs, but you should see artifacts long before then on that card. (I/E, mid 80's.)

Chipp is right, loads in the 70's are not that bad, however, if you are at stock you might consider replacing the TMI thats on the card with some AS5 or some AS Ceramic, as those temps are high enough that I personally would not be comfortable running my card for long gaming sessions at those temps. I personally would not OC at those temps, but thats just me, I would look at a VF900 before you do any serious overclocking.

Definitely. I'm running a VF900 and I can't shut up about it. Load temps in the 50°s.

I would say that the KO cooler isn't all *that* much better than the stock reference nVidia cooler. Its not even lapped or anything. And like in my thead I posted a week ago, if you get a months worth of dust in that cooler, hello 125°C temps!

I'm getting 35ºC with my 7900GTX. What's your ambient temperature?

Use the Nvidia control panel to monitor your temperature.

I recently put a vf900 cooler on my XFX 7900gt Extreme. My idle temp is 40 and max load 52, OC'd from 520/750 to 545/825. I would def recommed an aftermarket cooler if you plan to OC, if not dont bother. Im about to voltmod mine to 1.45-1.5V to get higher OC's!
