It's products are different than the competition. There's iOS and everyone else using Android. WP too but that's peanuts. You call it a belief as if it's nonsense but it's reality.
..in other words they can increase their profit margins (thus price as well)on their products without too much concern.
If you think the so-called "belief" is responsible for higher profit margins, I have a bridge to sell you.
The others are in a near "commodity hell" scenario in which they are stretched to thin margins because consumers associate their products as more interchangeable and therefore prices, features, and other determinants of "value" to the consumer are more heavily scrutinized.
More interchangeable? Wrong. More disposable is more like it. When you give away phones on contract, they are disposable and lack any value.
If anything the market situation of Android is what a market that favors the consumer would be more like.
Again, makes no sense since Apple plays in the exact same market as everyone else. The reason is because Android manufacturers pump out crap phone after crap phone. Sure, cheap products are sometimes welcome but you get what you pay for. Don't focus on tech sites and OCN, go walk into an AT&T or Verizon store and see the shelves that are lined with utter garbage Android phones.
Moto, LG, HTC, have problems because they don't have the same size and production advantages (vertical integration) that Samsung has among other factors.
Then what was the excuse 5 years ago or so when they were successful? Yea...exactly.
