I wouldn't suggest anybody delid with a razor blade. I thought it was a stupid idea. I loved the hammer and vice method when I first saw it. I was going to use that method - then I decided not to for some unknown reason. I used a regular single-edge blade instead.
I don't know what to blame, I hope someday we can figure it out or that we don't have to figure out because perhaps these are just isolated incidents. I doubt these will be the last to crack, however.
If you delid, know that a number of things can go wrong. I don't suggest either method right now. I suggest anyone brave enough to try a new method attempt to use .023" fishing line and a rubber grip hobby vice. IMO that's the safest method, but yes it is untested.
