Computer not booting up at all

Thread Starter
My desktop (sig rig) has been working fine but today it would just not boot. All of the fans would spin for a split second but then it would just shut down and the same thing would keep on repeating until the power supply is turned off. I first decided to clear my bios which then my desktop actually booted but within a few minutes it had shut off by itself. I again tried clearing bios multiple times but it does not boot at all now. I have tried reseating ram, reseating cpu cooler, running with no video card, and also testing with another power supply but the problem still persists. I noticed when I unplugged the cpu power cord all the fans would run normally but with the cpu power plugged in they only spin for that split second. Any ideas of what could be wrong? Seems like a cpu or motherboard problem? Could a dead cmos battery cause this?

I tried without the case fans, problem still persisted.

Okay this seems really strange but I turned on my desktop without the cmos battery and it booted up perfectly fine! Its been running for about half an hour with no problems. I also tried restarting and it boots fine. So I guess a dead cmos battery is to blame? Seems really weird that the cmos battery caused this though..
