AMD HD 7850 automatic fan problem

I'm having a very weird problem with my fans on my 7850 on automatic settings when i select auto fan speed for my card it shows it's running at 10% fan speed so i was like okay that's quiet and reasonable fan speed for idle but i went into a game i was running around 66C and my fan speed only ramped up too 12% i was really worried about this cause i don't wanna run a curve that will make this card very loud so i used automatic fan speed is this auto setting broken? i am using sapphire trixx to set the fan speed to automatic or is just how the automatic fan speed is like?

That is how my card behaves as well under load. It seems to adjust the speed of the fan based on the temps. If you were to bench the card using Furmark, you would see how high the fan spins as that tool puts a lot of stress on the card.

Do you keep it like this? so if i kept it like this this will not lead too overheating? also thanks for the fast reply biggrin.gif

it will not get heated, but not overheated as that is within the safe operating temps. But also, the sapphire Dual X has one of the best coolers and mine does not make sound higher than my surroundings until it spins up to 75%. If you like, you could design your fan curve which gives you the lowest sound but also good cooling.

I have the Asus direct cu ii card tongue.gif but at 50% fan speed i can pretty much hear it

reference coolers are different from each other. Usually, some put high noise when spinning up than others and AIB's usually put in different technologies to make their cards as silent as possible. You could ramp up the speed for your card to 50 % and compare it with DCii and see if it is worse or better.

But i will not have any issues if i just use automatic right? i want this card to be unhearable in games

if that is the temps (66*c) it reaches while you are gaming then its fine. You could leave it at that, as it will do you no harm

But if my room temp gets hot like 26c and my gpu temps go up too 75c+ i should set the fan speed Manuely?

It is usually preferred to set an automatic fan profile so as to not stress the card too much. IIRC, at 75*C, the card would start to throttle and bring down the clocks. BTW, what games do you play in which you do not use sounds ?headscratch.gif
