I've heard that people even have bottlenecks with faster processors than the e6600... not sure about it.

Once you hit 3.0+ GHZ the bottleneck disappears by a large amount.

Even at stock settings, it will max out every game with all sorts of filtering at high resolutions.

I want a GTX, now that the price are going down by as much as $110.

Now, The E6600 at 3.0ghz should be more than enough for a single 8800 GTX. Overclocking far more wouldn't be necessary but it's always good to OC whenever you feel safe.

BTW, Mercy, what current OC are you setting your E6600 to? You know hitting 3.0ghz is very easy, with pretty much everything at AUTO.

$660, now $540: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143075

My mistake, I meant up to $120.

Lot of those prices have taken effect just now, last night they were still $660. I take a look every night and this is the lowest they have been.

EDIT

Holy crap, they went from $639.99 to $589.99. just in the time that took me to write this post.

Well, for starters you should try what I use for a 24/7 settings which couldn't get any easiers, here:

__________

I've let all the power saving features on (enabled) so that my CPU even overclocked will consume less energy and therefore the frequency will change from 2.0GHZ to the full 3.0GHZ when needed/full load.

I use a 2:3 ratio (which gives me a 1000mhz RAM Frequency) but if you decide to run with a 1:1 ratio then the DRAM Frequency will read 664mhz or a 4:5 ratio which will be a 835mhz.

Also, if 334 is too much for now, try a 300fsb, then your 1:1 for RAM should be DDR2 600, for a 4:5 it should be DDR2 750. Try the 300 with the cooling that you have, and I would guess is the stock right?
