Upgrading GAMING RIG from AMD 1055t.

Thread Starter
Hello, i'm upgrading my current rig which consists of a NVIDIA GTX 660ti (Which i will be carrying over to the new rig) 8GB DDR3 ram (Which i will be replacing if i can get this overall build cost down) a 60gb SSD and a 1.5tb hdd which is on it's way out. I also have a 1055t and a m4a87td/usb3. In which the CPU is bottlenecking my games such as planetside 2 and so on. And so i'm planning to upgrade to this machine;

(Click on summary tab to view my comments)
The total price of the rig is around the maximum i have to spend, And are only replacing the parts that i have put prices next to (Possibly upgrading the ram if i have enough left over)
I was just wondering if this build is a decent upgrade from my 1055t machine, and if i'm able to get some prices down such as the expensive motherboard.

Thanks.

Mobo is overkill.

I take it you can order from aria?

http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/MSI+Z87-G45+GAMING+Intel+Z87+%28Socket+1150%29+ATX+Motherboard+?productId=55798

The CPU is also a bit cheaper on aria http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/Intel+Core+i5-4670K+3.40GHz+%28Haswell%29+Socket+LGA1150+Processor+-+Retail+?productId=55828

For the HDD, you have two options. Option 1: spend the same money and get a better quality 2TB drive http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/2TB+Seagate+Barracuda+ST2000DM001+3.5%22+SATA+III+Hard+Drive+-+HDD+?productId=48301 Option 2: Spend less money and get a 1TB drive and it is still better than the one you chose http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Storage/Hard+Drives/3.5+Inch+SATA+Drives/640GB+-+1TB/1TB+Seagate+Barracuda+ST1000DM003+3.5%22+SATA+III+Hard+Drive+-+HDD+?productId=48501

Some people may disagree and this is definitely debatable, but I would go with this SSD http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/120GB+Samsung+840+Series+2.5%22+SATA+6GB%2Fs+%28SATA-III%29+Solid+State+Drive+SSD+?productId=53690

Lastly, you can still go for the NHD14. It is a great cooler. However, for slightly less money and a bit better performance, you could go with the silver arrow. http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Fans+%26+Cooling/Air/Thermalright+Silver+Arrow+SB-E+SE+Dual+Fan+Performance+CPU+Cooler+?productId=56156

Be careful. The silver arrow might not fit in your case.

I've never bought from Aria before, or head of them, i usually buy from www.cclonline.com as they are local to me, and if i have any issues i can just drive down and replace it. But it seems i've chosen an overkill motherboard? It also seems that CCL don't do this motherboard but they do other types of Z87 boards. All i'm looking is one that supports 5.1 surround, supports the socket 1550, will support nvidia sli.

I appreciate your help

I'm a big fan of ebuyer. www.ebuyer.com

For the motherboard I would get the Z87-UD3H, it has the optical audio output I presume you are looking for.

It does have a different sound chipset though. UD3H Realtek 898, OC 892.

Be careful about the Seagate 2TB drives there are two versions of it under the same product name. A faster one with 1TB platters and a slower one without.

If you don't want to risk it I would say the 1TB WD Blue, WD10EZEX or the 3TB Seagate, apparently all 3TB drives use 1TB platters.

UD3H £139.55
4670K £186.79
ST2000DM001 £63.03
Crucial M4 128GB £69.90
NH-D14 £62.21

Total £520.48

Aria is great. I have helped many people in the UK by buying parts through them. They CAN be trusted. thumb.gif

Okay, about coolers, will the NH-D14 fit? as it doesn't say it fits socket 1150.
Also, Will this be sufficient for a overclock for the 4670k?
Thanks.
